You Got Your Offer Accepted – What’s Next?
Congratulations! Your offer has been accepted – exciting times ahead! But hold off on picking out those new curtains just yet. There are a few key steps to tackle before you can officially call your new place home. Let’s break it down!

Step 1: The Sale Agreement 📜✍️
The seller’s estate agent will prepare a sale agreement (aka memorandum of sale) and share it with all parties involved.
This document will confirm:
✅ The property address
✅ The agreed purchase price
✅ The names and addresses of both buyer and seller
✅ Other important details to keep things moving smoothly
Step 2: Finalising Your Mortgage 💰🏦
If you’ve already got a mortgage-in-principle, now’s the time to contact your lender. They’ll guide you through the next steps, including arranging a mortgage valuation to make sure everything checks out.
Step 3: Book a Surveyor & Conveyancer 🔍📑
A property survey isn’t mandatory, but it’s a smart move! It helps uncover any hidden issues with the home, giving you the chance to negotiate repairs with the seller.
Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring ownership, and you’ll need a solicitor or licensed conveyancer to handle this. If you don’t already have one, check online comparison sites or ask for recommendations from family and friends.
Step 4: Let the Pros Do Their Thing ⚖️💼
At this stage, your solicitor will:
✔️ Review the draft contract of sale
✔️ Conduct property searches (checking for planning issues, flood risks, etc.)
✔️ Liaise with your mortgage lender
This process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months – so patience is key!
Step 5: Time to Sign! ✒️🔑
Once everything checks out, your solicitor will ask you to sign the contract. Then, contracts are officially exchanged with the seller’s solicitor, and a completion date is set.
